This website is Emily Whitten's author-editor website investigating the intersection of literature and faith, especially for junior high and high school students. Drawing on my experiences as a young reader, college English major, editor of children's books, and now a mother, this website will equip readers—especially educators and parents—to interact wisely with literature and postmodern culture. It will also connect readers to my other writings which I hope will be an extension of this moral and spiritual vision.
Included are 7 pages in addition to the homepage: 1) At the heart of the website is The Behind the Bookcase blog project to begin January 2010 and conclude in December 2010. It will investigate the idea of Literature as a hiding place, beginning with Anne of Green Gables and Anne Frank and tracing my own development as a reader through Jack Kerouac's writing; 2) Links page: will provide resource suggestions for further study, including websites, books, and audio files; 3) Sing Along page: a page for creative engagement of the subject. I hope other writers, singers, musicians, painters, etc. will contribute work to support the project; 4) About Em page: will provide info about me, the author and creator; 5) Contact page; 6) Other Writing page: will include descriptions and links to my other writing and editing projects; and 7) Reading Resources page: will catalog my criticism and ratings of books for children and young adults.
I hope you will join me as I look afresh at my own search for mercy, dignity, and community through literature, as well as show how that search has been enriched by the life and teachings of Christ. |
